A Clemmons-based plastics injection molding manufacturer has added making high-quality face shields to its production line. Battery Watering Technologies has pivoted from its core business to include manufacturing of its Xtreme Defense branded face shields to aid in the battle against Covid-19.

Operating in the commercial and industrial battery sector, the company has ramped up production capacity to make 6,000 face shields per day, touting them as both comfortable and practical. In addition to its intent to provide PPE to the general public, the company in part made the move to preserve jobs for its 50 employees.

Founded in 1999, Battery Watering Technologies offers solutions for industrial and commercial applications. With major customers that include Lowes, Wal-Mart, Coca-Cola, Target and more, the company is leveraging its distribution network to offer its face shields to consumers. Priced at $10, it has also launched an e-commerce website at xtremedefenseppe.com.

“Covid-19 has impacted our world much like 9/11 did. The way we interact and do business has forever been changed,” Battery Watering Technologies President Rob Soares said. “We were trying to figure out a way to help, and we needed to focus on what we could do. We had the resources, machinery, tooling and manpower to build face shields. You will not find a more quality face shield on the market. I truly believe that.”

Design features of the Xtreme Defense Face Shield include one-eigth inch thick foam inside a high-quality visor for comfort on the forehead, an adjustable strap for accurate fit and a 180-degree anti-fog shield. The entire device is cleanable and reusable.

The company will hold a drive-in sale Friday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its headquarters on 6645 Holder Road in Clemmons. It will donate $1 for every shield sold at the event to Cancer Services of Winston-Salem.

“We are so thankful to Battery Watering Technologies for this thoughtful and generous support,” Cancer Services of Winston-Salem CEO Tara O’Brien said. “It comes at such a critical time as our agency has seen over 180% increase in client needs since this time last year.”
