For the past seven years during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we have participated in the Donate and Give Hope campaign through Cancer Services Inc. of North Carolina to support individuals battling breast cancer and their loved ones.
With so many amazing charities and nonprofits, the biggest challenge for us was deciding which one(s) to support. So many lives have been affected by breast cancer, and not just those who are fighting. Spouses, parents, children and friends of those battling breast cancer are deeply impacted, and through the Donate and Give Hope Campaign we have been able to help lessen the hardships that affect patients and their support systems.
Everyone at Battery Watering Technologies supports the fight against breast cancer, and ultimately, that is what led us to select this foundation. It is also important to us to support our local community, and Cancer Services Inc., being based out of the triad area in North Carolina, has helped us reach that goal.
During the month of October/Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we contribute $1 for each sale of a watering kit to Cancer Services Inc. Customers who purchase a kit during October receive the watering kit with a pink ribbon to signify the campaign. While our financial contributions have become significant, having raised over $70,000 for the foundation, we also seek to spread awareness. Social media outreach and direct outreach to customers are direct avenues to raise awareness.
We have reached thousands of individuals via email, our LinkedIn page and our website to share information about breast cancer, including common and less known symptoms to look out for, treatment options and other resources for families that are impacted by breast cancer. Our hope is to reach as many people as possible to advocate for preventative screenings and early detection. Did you know that approximately 143 in 100,000 people in North Carolina are diagnosed with breast cancer each year? That amounts to roughly 6,000 women who are diagnosed annually, but of that amount, 5,000 make a full recovery. Our ultimate goal is to see the number of those in full recovery increase.
Reaching and supporting breast cancer fighters and survivors in all stages of the cancer recovery process was another factor that led us to fundraise for Cancer Services Inc. Once survivors of breast cancer are in recovery, Cancer Services Inc. continues to provide valuable resources and education. The organization provides survivors with a variety of nutrition resources, social and emotional support, and they put on survivor seminars.
We are proud to support Cancer Services Inc. and the fight against cancer, and we’re grateful to have an organization like Cancer Services Inc. as a part of our community. From preventative screenings to treatment plans, to recovery services, Cancer Services Inc. really does it all.
